CASA Art (Kindergarten)
Self Portraits
Students draw their self portraits on the very first day of week of art, and the very last week. I just love seeing how muc they have grown as a artists! Their new self portraits will be transfered to fabric and turned into dolls for them to paint.

Color Wheel
Students outlined the shapes with oil pastels, and then filled in the middle with paint. The squares had two color outlines, and students had fun discovering what colors were made when the watercolor paint blended together.
Concentric Circle Kandinsky Trees
Students practiced cutting and pasting straight lines and circles. They also learned how to use just the right amount of glue when pasting objects. Kids had fun being creative with their trees!
This student chose to space out his branches evenly on the trunk, at even angles, like a pine tree. He placed his circles at the ends of the branches. |

This student wanted her tree to be in Autumn, so she placed most of her circle leaves in piles under the tree. |
---|
This student looked out the window and noticed that tree branches are usually pretty uneven, but they usually point up. He concentrated his leaves at the ends. |
---|
This student wanted a very tall tree, so she placed her branches high up. |

Drawing from Observation
This lesson is tricky in Kindergarten, but so valuable! Students each chose a beanie baby to practice drawing. I liked the beanie babies because it offered a lot of diversity, it was something all students enjoyed drawing, and had simple shapes. Students practiced drawing the lines with their fingers, drawing the contours in the air, and then practicing drawing the contours with a pencil before they drew their whole animal. They were surprised at how well their animals turned out!
Students drew the contours with their fingers and eyes before drawing with their pencils. | Poseidon the Whale SharkThis student practiced drawing whale sharks over and over again. He made a whole school of friends! |

BunniesAnother student also chose to draw bunnies. She drew her bunny beanie in different poses! | BunniesA student's final observation drawing of her bunnies. She added a garden! |

RoverFinal observation of a Puppy. I love how she colored in her hears. | Rover practice linesThese are the practice lines done by the same artist that drew Rover the Dog. Notice how she filled her whole page with practice lines. |

Practice LinesMore practice lines by a boy who chose to draw a shark beanie. He was focused on seeing the direction of the contours of the fins. | BunniesTwo bunnies sharing an apple. |

Filling in a Space
Students practiced filling in an entire space with color. They used oil pastels to fill their whole page inside the taped lines, then painted over their colors with black tempra to make their own scratch boards. They loved the magic of revealing the colors!
Snowman Composition
Students learned about composition by building a snowman. First, they used different sized circles to draw their snowman with a white pastel from the ground up. Then they sponged on white paint and added details to give their snowman character. The next day, they found that "Santa's elves" had added glitter snow to their paintings. ;) I love how they all turned out so different.
Hot Air Balloons
Students reinforced their skills in line, as well as cutting out large shapes and painting with paintbruses. They loved putting their own picture in the basket of the balloon!
Printmaking
Students transfer drawing so styrofoam plates, and printed them onto colored paper to make cards.
Felting
Students learned wet felting techniques to create gardens. We made a big soapy mess, and my classroom smelled like wet sheep, but my tables were SO CLEAN!!!
