Silk Painting
I gave a presentation about silk and the Silk Road prior to this lesson. Students learned and read about Chinese motifs and then painted on silk with dye. They loved this lesson!

Piggy Banks
Students created a piggy bank (or hippopotaomus bank or whatever!) using two equal sized pinch pots that they slipped togther. They added on pieces by scoring and slipping, and learned that bigger pieces needed to be hollowed out to avoid explosions due to thick walls.

Students learn slab and coil building techniques, then learn about Polynesian culture and design their own tiki sculptures using slab and coil methods.

Reduction Printmaking
In elementary, students learn the basics of printmaking. In Junior High, they take it a step furter and learn reduction printmaking. Students learned to make a map of their drawing and plan their reductions. They learn to cut away one layer at a time to create an image with several colors.
